Ashoka Twin Cities

Welcome to Ashoka Twin Cities

Ashoka Twin Cities is a local chapter of Ashoka, a global association of the world’s leading social entrepreneurs — over 3,000 men and women with system-changing solutions for the world’s most urgent social problems. Ashoka sources the best social innovations, mobilizes hundreds of thousands of people to create change and enables businesses, the media, policy makers and "changemakers" to work together to create global impact. Drawing from our global platform, Ashoka Twin Cities focuses on supporting social innovation and developing the skills of changemaking at a local level.

Since starting an office in Minneapolis, our work has focused on supporting young people age 12 to 20 to launch and lead their first social venture, sourcing innovations through open-source online competitions, hosting community events, and identifying and selecting leading social entrepreneurs as Ashoka Fellows. We are also crossing sectors to collaborate and build unique partnerships with colleges, universities and businesses.

Ashoka Fellows
There are currently six Ashoka Fellows who make the Twin Cities their home. They are working to revolutionize the way we approach poverty, neighborhoods, early childhood development, the environment, global mindsets and college education.Learn more ›

The Twin Cities is also home to multiple organizations that have been scaled by Ashoka Fellows living elsewhere. These include, Genesys Works, Teach for America, KIPP and more. Learn more ›

Youth
Through our Youth Venture program, our office has inspired and invested in over 50 teams of young people to design and launch their own lasting social ventures, enabling them to have this transformative experience of leading positive social change. Youth Venture is currently offered at Roseville High School and Brooklyn Center High School through a partnership with the Greater Twin Cities United Way.

Colleges and Universities
Ashoka’s vision is for colleges and universities everywhere to become more innovative and entrepreneurial through the institutional change efforts of a campus change team. All Ashoka U programs are aligned with three systems-change strategies: Develop and empower higher education change leaders, advance universities as campus-wide hubs of social innovation, and catalyze universities as co-creators of social change. Learn more ›
