Interns at Ashoka work with professionals and entrepreneurs committed to supporting an influential civil society worldwide. Our goal is to give interns the opportunity to shape their own substantive responsibilities. As trusted members of the Ashoka team, interns are expected to demonstrate Ashoka’s core values of applied empathy, entrepreneurship and collegiality, and commitment to innovation for the public. Intern candidates are evaluated according to Ashoka’s hiring criteria and to the specific qualifications for each internship position.

General internship applications to the US team are accepted on a rolling basis.

Ashoka US: Fundraising Internship 

Seeking Development Associate Intern to support US fundraising efforts through detailed research, proposal writing, and online database updating.

Commitment, Compensation, Location and Start Date 

This position requires a minimum commitment of three months working 20-30 hours per week.  All internships are unpaid. Start date is ASAP at our office in Arlington, VA, across the Potomac from Washington, DC. Ashoka is conveniently located above the Rosslyn Metro station on the Blue/Orange line, and is also serviced by several bus lines.

Ashoka is an officially recognized work-study employer for eligible students from Georgetown University and George Washington University.

The decentralized, yet integrated, management philosophy unique to Ashoka allows a great deal of flexibility and room for entrepreneurial initiative. While exercising and strengthening one's research and fundraising skills, the Development Associate will work with a team of talented and committed individuals in the Arlington, VA headquarters.  This position requires a minimum commitment of three months working 20-30 hours per week.

Responsibilities will include

  • Prospecting new funding sources
  • Developing grant proposals and reports
  • Updating Salesforce, our online CRM tool
  • General administrative assistance for Fundraising program

Qualifications

  • Excellent research and analytical skills
  • Strong writing skills
  • Prior development experience is preferred but not required
  • Comfort with online CRM tools like Salesforce is desired.
  • A high degree of initiative, creativity, self-direction and results orientation
  • Enthusiasm for solving social problems and for building the profession of social entrepreneurship
  • Adaptability to changing circumstances and needs
